Painting Mediums & Varnishes

Atelier Liquefying Medium is an acrylic paint extender, designed to provide the most efficient means of reducing paint viscosity whilst maintaining covering power. Ideal for flow applications, including airbrushing & detailed line work. Atelier Liquefying Medium is water-based and best suited for slow-drying wet-in-wet techniques.

Atelier Low Viscosity Retarder makes blending with, particularly wet-over-wet & wet-over dry, acrylic colours easier. Atelier Low Viscosity Retarder is an additive, so only a certain amount can be mixed before the mixture becomes unstable.

Atelier Moulding Paste (previously Atelier Modelling Compound) is a fast-drying & waterproof, thick paste made from calcite grit. Drying to a matte finish yet remaining flexible, Atelier Moulding Paste can be used to:

• Create exaggerated structure & textural effects
• Increase paint body
• Reduce colour intensity & gloss levels (when mixed with paint)
• Prepare most painting surfaces
• Extend acrylic paints

Atelier Moulding Paste is water-based & non-toxic. Clean up with mild soap and cool water.

Used for extreme fluid effects and pouring techniques on acrylic-based paints, Atelier Pouring Medium helps thin paint, making it more fluid without compromising the paint's strength, vibrancy, and transparency. 

Atelier Pouring Medium dries to a glossy finish and is self-leveling. Add a few drops of silicon oil into the acrylic paint and pouring medium to create a unique cell formulation in your artwork. Experiment with texture mediums to create a unique effect on your artwork. 

Atelier Traditional Gesso Primer offers excellent adhesion, flexibility and tooth.

The high grit content of Atelier Traditional Gesso Primer provides a highly satisfying, stable white ground on which to paint.

Atelier Traditional Liquid Gesso Primer is a flexible, water-based acrylic with a high grit content. Used to prepare a surface for acrylic or oil painting, Atelier Traditional Liquid Gesso Primer offers a thinner consistency than traditional primers.

Atelier Traditional Varnishes can be used either as a medium to adjust the sheen levels of acrylic paint, or as an over-varnish for finishing. Formulated from hard acrylic emulsion, Atelier Traditional Varnishes provide a non-tacky, permanent & protective coating.

Chroma Solvent Finishing Varnishes provide a protective coating to oil, or acrylic paintings, without altering the surface quality of a painting. Specifically formulated to allow a painting to be cleaned at a later date, Chroma Solvent Finishing Varnishes are self-leveling, strippable and non-yellowing.

Chromacryl Binder Medium is an excellent primer used to seal and prepare all painting surfaces or extend paint. Highly versatile, Chromacryl Binder Medium is ideal for glazing, and is also an excellent adhesive for collage or papier mache applications. Dries clear.

Chromacryl Clear Gel Medium is a clear medium extender that changes the coverage quality of paint and ink to achieve colour glazes without affecting pigments. Chromacryl Clear Gel Medium is ideal for monoprinting and overprinting. Use as a paint extender, for transparent glazing or as a release agent when applied to a surface prior to paint application. Chromacryl Clear Gel Medium can also be used as a reduction paste in silkscreen painting.

Chromacryl Finishing Varnish is a water-based varnish for acrylic paintings which provides a tough, clear and non-tacky surface. Chromacryl Finishing Varnish is perfect for all artworks and surfaces where hard, heat-resistant varnish is required.
