What Is Gouache Paint?
Gouache is a member of the watermedia paint family and can be used as watercolour paint on watercolor paper or any surface suitable for watercolor.
Watercolour brushes can be used for gouache without fear of ruining them, and no special chemicals are needed for clean up because gouache is water soluble and can be cleaned up with water. As it's soluble you can rewet gouache with water to make it more transparent.
Opaque Gouache–is not transparent, but with the addition of water they can become semi-transparent. Some characteristics of Gouache paint are: a matte finish, rich colours, water soluble, dries quickly, can be layered with acrylics, can be corrected.
Can You Paint Gouache Over Acrylic?
With gouache paint and acrylic paint you don't need to worry about the layering order, although, acrylics tend to make a great underpainting.
Can You Paint Gouache On Canvas?
Gouache paint works well on watercolour paper, however the best option for gouache is paper for gouache. While you can technically use canvas, that's better suited for acrylic paint.
