FAQs about Printmaking Supplies
What Is Printmaking
The technique of printing motifs or patterns on a surface using ink and pressure is known as printmaking. This technology has been around for quite some time, having first been observed in China about 255 BC. Since then, printmaking of various sorts has thrived all around the world.
What Are The Different Types Of Printmaking
The four main types of printmaking are categorised as: relief, intaglio, planographic and stencil.
Relief printing is one of the most straightforward printmaking processes, in which material is carved off or removed from around the projecting design that is to be printed. The ink here is applied to the plateau of the matrix.
Intaglio printing, technically speaking, is the inverse of relief printing: the ink is applied beneath the original surface of the matrix, such as with engraving and etching techniques.
The major difference between the relief/intaglio and planographic techniques is that the design is printed on a flat surface in the latter. The matrix is left intact, but it is specially prepared to allow for the transfer of the picture.
Last but not least, stenciling is a form of printmaking that involves cutting a thin material and then printing the design onto it by rubbing or spraying paint around the spaces that have been carved out. As stencils are one of the most popular methods used by urban interventionists, they are also very popular among street artists.
Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. There are many different types of printmaking, from linocut and etching, to engraving, monotype, woodcut and lithography. Whichever style of printmaking you prefer, Discount Art N Craft Warehouse has the supplies for you.
