FAQs about Acrylic Paint Brushes

To clean brushes with dried acrylic paint, make sure your brush is made of natural fibres first rather than synthetic fibers, as synthetic fibres tend to break down when exposed to chemicals solvents.

Acetone is a solvent that is proven to work. The downside is that it has a strong chemical odour, and should not be used indoors or next to children. Isopropryl alcohol is another strong solvent. This is a good alternative to acetone as it is substantially more odourless while having similar strength.

Whichever solvent you choose, place your brush in a glass jar and add enough solvent so that the bristles and ferrule are fully submerged. Wait a couple of minutes, then wash the brush with soapy water. Dishwasher soap is preferred to hand soap, as it is stronger and can penetrate the brush further. Repeat the process if there is still dried paint left on the brush.

Need to clean your acrylic plain brushes? There a few easy steps you need to take to keep them in tip-top condition.

Step 1 - Clean the brush by wiping off any excess acrylic paint. To do this you can use a cloth or some paper towls to press down the brush to the britles to push paint out the tip of the brush. You may need to do this part a few times.

Step 2 - Using some clean water, swirl the brush to help release any stubborn acrylic paint on the bristles. Then with a cloth, you can work out any remaining bits of paint in the brush. Again, you might need to do this a few times to get it all out.

Step 3 - Finally, once you are done, keep your acrylic brushes stored away in a jar or a brush holder.
