Oil Paint Mediums & Varnishes

Archival Odourless Solvent is formulated for artists who are sensitive to the odours of traditional oil mediums and solvents. A low-toxicity & low-odour alternative, to mineral turpentine, Archival Odourless Solvent is ideal for the home or shared studio. Suitable for use as a paint thinner and brush cleaner. 

Archival Smooth Gel Medium helps retain brush marks and improves brush-ability of oil paint. It is formulated for artists who are sensitive to the odours of traditional oil mediums and solvents. Mix Archival Smooth Gel Medium 50/50 with oil paint to achieve a faster drying time.

Art Spectrum Art Clean is a brush and tool cleaner made from a blend of natural and biodegradable extracts. Similar to turpentine with a citrus scent and does not contain any petroleum-based solvents and no harmful bleaches.

Art Spectrum Brush and Hand Cleaner exudes no potent fumes and is harmless on the skin, safely removing both oil and acrylic based paints from brushes, tools and hands. Restore stiff, old brushes and maintain soft and pliable bristles. Non-abrasive, non-toxic and biodegradable.

Art Spectrum Glazing Gel Medium is used to achieve moderate impasto effects and glazing in oil painting. When mixed with oil paints, Art Spectrum Glazing Gel Medium becomes liquid and will increase the transparency of oil colours. Dries quickly with a soft sheen.

Quality gloss varnish suited to protect oil or acrylic painitngs. Ensure the painting is fully dry before the varnish is applied.

Art Spectrum Gum Turpentine is a solvent used to dissolve varnish, make mediums and remove oil paint. Use in well ventilated areas and in moderation.

Art Spectrum Linseed Oil is used to enhance flow of oil colours and slow drying time. Ideal for wet-on-wet techniques, Art Spectrum Linseed Oil  can also be used to clean brushes.

Art Spectrum Low-Odour Mediums are an alternative to the traditional Art Spectrum Medium No.1, suitable for artists' who are sensitive to the strong turpentine fumes.

Art Spectrum Low-Odour Medium (Lean) is low odour oil medium for achieving fast drying and well balanced layers.

Art Spectrum Low-Odour Medium (Fat) can be used in place of gum turpentine.

Art Spectrum Medium #1 is ready to use straight from the container and is the leanest of the Art Spectrum mediums. Depending on climate and thickness of the paint, Medium #1 will usually dry overnight. It contains a balanced amount of stand oil and turpentine for a well balanced and permanent paint layer. Use to clean and lessen absorbency of pre-primed canvas, simply wipe on and then wipe off.

Art Spectrum Oil Medium range is also available in #2, #3 and #4 Liquol

Art Spectrum Oil Painting Medium #2 is used as the next fattest medium in the sequence of painting by the"fat over lean" rule. It contains more oil and slower drying than Medium #1.

Medium #1 can be fattened by gradually adding Medium #2. Medium #2 may be used as a glazing medium but if very thin veils of colour are required, it is recommended to use Art Spectrum Medium #4.

Art Spectrum Oil Medium range is also available in #3

Art Spectrum Oil Painting Medium #3 is used as the fattest medium in the sequence of painting by the"fat over lean" rule. It contains more oil and slower drying than Medium #2. Ideal for painters who prefer a heavier and more viscous medium.
Medium #2 can be fattened by gradually adding Medium #3 in 10% increments.
